Bayern might welcome back Franck Ribery this weekend; they will hope for a much better result than that against Schalke against old rivals, VfB Stuttgart.

The situation is the same but the opponent is different; Bayern takes on yet another crisis stricken team in VfB Stuttgart. Stuttgart's loss to FC Köln displayed just how problematic their current situation is. Losing 0-2 against a newly promoted side is never positive. Schalke came into their match against Bayern in a similar situation prior to the international break and managed to rescue a 1-1 draw, showing what they are capable of in the process in an attacking sense. Stuttgart is yet to display good attacking intent in the Bundesliga this season.

Bayern has secured Mehdi Benatia in their ranks but this game might come too early for him. Xabi Alonso is set to coordinate Bayern's play throughout the pitch unless a small niggling issue sees him ruled out. Two out of three of David Alaba, Gianluca Gaudino and Sebastian Rode might start in defensive midfield due to the absences of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thiago Alcantara. Philipp Lahm might have been an alternate option in midfield had Rafinha not been ruled out. Mitchell Weiser is also out. Despite all these issues, Bayern will be satisfied with the news of the return of Franck Ribery.

Despite the missing personnel, Bayern should still be strong enough to defeat Stuttgart. Stuttgart will be without David Ginczek and Mohammed Abdellaoue for this one. Stuttgart overall does not have a poor side; they have enough good players to ensure Bundesliga survival; however, they do not have enough for more than just that. Last season, they fought against relegation throughout, saving themselves at the right moment.

As for Bayern, one has to wonder whether Pep Guardiola will continue with a three man defense. Bayern has not yet looked completely convincing at the back. The players are still seemingly adjusting to the new formation. However, the fact that they are able to produce good performances in parts of matches is a good sign. Peaking too early can also be a problem as last season showed.

Last season, both league meetings were settled by last second strikes by Bayern. Will it be the same this season?
