Philadelphia Union and New York Red Bulls will clash at PPL Park on Saturday afternoon looking to remain in playoff positions in the Eastern Conference.

The New York Red Bulls are looking to reach a third consecutive win following victories against D.C. United on Wednesday and Sporting Kansas City last Saturday. On the other hand, Philadelphia Union will try to have a good start in their first of three matches in the next eight days; including the US Open Cup final on Tuesday.

These teams will meet for the third and last time this season, with a win each in the series. The New York Red Bulls currently stand in the fourth place in the East with 37 points while the Union is in sixth place with one point less, so a pretty even match can be expected.

According to Philadelphia Union interim manager Jim Curtin, their rivalry with the Red Bulls is a bitter one.

“New York-Philadelphia across all sports is a bitter rivalry,” he mentioned

“We don’t like each other too much. It’ll be big to take both games from them on our field.

“It matters a great deal that we protect this building and give our fans what they deserve which is wins at home. We’ve started to establish that now and we want to keep it going.”

Ahead of the match, Union's forward Sebastien Le Toux commented:

“As players, it brings out the best in us. We’re a confident group right now and we are playing well. We want to keep it all going and we all believe in each other. We had a tough start early in the season and we stayed together. Now, we’re getting results and it feels great.”

Current MLS’ leading goal scorer Bradley Wright-Phillips is not expected to play for the Red Bulls on Saturday after picking a hamstring injury during Wednesday’s 1-0 home win against D.C. United. Thierry Henry, one of the league’s leading assisting players will have the difficult task to cover his offensive partner’s absence.
