Edson Buddle joins the likes of Landon Donovan, Jeff Cunningham and Jaime Moreno in the list of MLS players with 100+ regular season goals.

Colorado Rapids striker Edson Buddle scored his 100th MLS goal during his club’s 4-3 defeat by LA Galaxy at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday. The goal came in the 17th minute of play after the striker headed in a cross from a corner kick sent by teammate Dillon Powers to give the Rapids an early 2-0 lead.

“It was a good corner kick. The ball that Dillon played was in the right place and I just made my hard run to the goal and got my head on it,” the striker commented.

Rapids head coach Pablo Mastroeni also had his word on Buddle’s 100th goal.

“For Edson, that 100th goal is a great stamp to put on the career he’s had. I think he’s been one of the true unrecognized pioneers in the modern game and it’s a great accolade to have in the old trophy case. I couldn’t be happier for him."

The striker reached a record that only seven players have achieved before him, unfortunately, he couldn’t celebrate his achievement as he would have liked after witnessing how his team let go a two-goal advantage to end up losing the match.

Buddle has played for more than 10 years in the MLS. He started his career in 2001 in Columbus where he scored a total of 42 goals in 106 appearances then he moved to New York Red Bulls for a short spell where he scored 6 goals in 28 appearances. After that, he joined the LA Galaxy in 2007 where he scored 42 goals in 87 appearances before joining German club Ingolstadt 04 where he played one season. In 2012 he came back to Los Angeles to play again for Galaxy and he scored 3 goals before joining the Colorado Rapids in 2013 where he has scored 7 goals.
