The LA Galaxy star, considered the best US player in history, announced his retirement from soccer last week.

A couple of months ago the USMNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann shocked the world when he decided not to include Landon Donovan in the 23-man squad to play the World Cup in Brazil. Apparently, the German coach’s decision had side effects on Donovan’s career plans as the striker announced on August 7th that he will be retiring from professional soccer at the end of the current MLS season.

The 32-year-old LA Galaxy striker is considered the best US soccer player in history as his numbers in the MLS and with the national team are impressive. He scored 32 goals and won 2 MLS Cups with his former club the San Jose Earthquakes from 2001 to 2004. After that, he moved to LA Galaxy where he has netted in 106 goals and won 3 MLS championships from 2005 to 2014. With the national team he has also achieved great numbers as he has earned 156 caps and scored 57 goals.

People from all around the world have expressed his support to Landon after his decision, including players, managers, press and fans. Bruce Arena, the current LA Galaxy boss, was even broke down to tears after knowing about the decision. Mexican coach, Miguel Herrera, also had his word on this saying that he hopes Landon could change his mind on his retirement.
