Napoli and Barcelona will meet in a preseason friendly at the Stade de Genève on Wednesday, the 6th of August.

New manager Luis Enrique will be hoping for a win on Wednesday after a disappointing outing last time out against Nice. The French side took an early lead against the Spanish giants as Dario Cvitanich expertly converted a penalty in the 21st minute. However his opener was cancelled out by Xavi’s equalizer in the 68th minute who also struck from the penalty spot.

The Spanish veteran however will not be able to take part in Barcelona’s next game after suffering a calf injury in training.

"Xavi Hernandez suffered a slight calf strain in his left leg during training Monday morning," a statement on the official Barcelona website reads.

"Club doctors will decide when he can return to training over the next few days."

The 34 year olds future at the club was expected to come to an end this season after it was speculated that the midfield maestro was close to signing for a Qatar based club. However it has now been revealed that the playmaker is set to extend his stay at the club for at least one more season.

Napoli on the other hand kicked their preseason campaign to a flying start after picking up a 2-0 win over POAK. Jose Callejon opened up the scoring after a delightful lob which found its way into the net. The Italian side proved to be the better team throughout the match and repeatedly threatened the POAK goal. New signing Michu almost added another for Napoli but his effort was saved by Giakoumis. The Partenopei had to wait till the 90th minute to get their second goal as Radosevic  capitalized from a Dzemaili cross to make it 2-0.

Following the match Rafa Benitez praised his team for a positive performance and reserved special praise for midfielder Walter Gargano who according to the Spanish tactician will be an important figure next season.

"We have received a positive response, not only from the team as a whole but from each individual player. This evening we have seen Gargano giving his all and certainly he will be an pivotal figure in the forthcoming season. We have a wide squad and we are working to strenghten the group even more. Actually I must say that Gargano always gives 100 per cent in, he is a great professional playmaker,” he said.
