After Pepe's red card, both Mueller and Mourinho expressed their opinions on the incident that decided the game between Germany and Portugal.

After yesterday’s trashing of Portugal by the ruthless Germans, the attention quickly shifted to the player considered responsible for the Portuguese demise, Pepe. First, Mourinho expressed some heavy criticism as to the Portuguese defender’s performance. Chelsea’s manager said:

“I think obviously the second goal is his fault […] and he left Hummels and Sami [Khedira] completely on his own.”

Mourinho was not impressed by the referee's decision to give Pepe a red card

The Special One added:

“After that I think the frustration of the mistake comes up and after that loses possession with the pressure of Muller and after that we can say is not a real aggression.”

The Special One was annoyed with Pepe's performance, which arguably caused Coentrao's injury

Moreover, Mou talked about Pepe as a non-Portuguese, due to the fact that he was born in Brazil. He revealed:

“The fact that is not even a Portuguese man, I think that should put even more pressure on him to behave in a certain way, which he didn't.”

Considering the entity of the contact, Mueller could have toned down his dramatic reaction

Also Thomas Mueller, the other side of the incident, released some statements with regards to his own impressions. The German stated:

“I’d like to see it on TV, I only hope that I looked okay. I felt a blow from his fist. But what happened after that I can’t really remember, whether we were head-to-head or not. I just hope it didn’t look stupid on TV.”

Mueller appears to have exaggerated his reaction, suggesting a lot more happened, than it actually did

Bayern Munich’s forward concluded:

“I didn’t want to cheat. I felt Pepe’s hit. I can’t influence a red card, and I was not playing for a red card.”

Pepe could and should have avoided going back to argue with the German player
