Spain will take on El Salvador in their final friendly before the World Cup.

They are the reigning champions; they have struck fear into the hearts of other teams since 2008. They have dominated football to the extent that no national side has found a solution to get past them in any major tournament aside from the Confederations Cup. Brazil did beat them in the final of the Confederations Cup last year; however, until Spain is beaten on the World stage, they will remain the most fearsome force in World football.

Injury problems rarely tend to derail Vicente Del Bosque’s side considering the resources available to him. Most national sides would definitely have been affected by the loss of a player of Thiago Alcantara’s vision but Del Bosque did not even have to blink. His one problem might be the lack of an in-form striker. Diego Costa’s injury is a blow, especially after the striker changed his nationality from Brazilian to Spanish to star for La Furia Roja in the World Cup. The Spanish showed us in Euro 2012 however that they do not need to play with an orthodox striker to win tournaments.

Spain recently took on Bolivia in a friendly and won 2-0. Javi Martinez stepped into the box in order to try and attack the ball when Spain earned a corner. Martinez was adjudged to have been fouled by the referee; he seemed to have felt a slight nudge on his back as he fell. Fernando Torres stepped up to take the penalty. He placed his shot towards the middle. The pace of his shot beat the goalkeeper; Spain took the lead.

The second came from none other than one of the World’s best midfielders, Andres Iniesta. Iniesta burst forward with pace, taking little notice of the defenders chasing him, and placed a ferocious shot into goal to double his country’s lead and effectively, seal the win.

Their opponents, El Salvador, is coming into this one on the back of a 1-2 loss to Ivory Coast. Can they compete with the best football has to offer?
