The three time World Cup winner's son was convicted of drug related offenses and sentenced to over 30 years in prision.

Certainly, this is not how legendary Brazilian player Pele would like to see his name in the press.

Although the three-time World Cup winner has made some controversial statements from time to time, this time, the buzz is not surrounding him, but rather one of his children.

Specifically, his son, Edinho, who had a brief footballing career as a goalkeeper with several teams, including two spells with his father's former club Santos from 1990-1991 and again from 1994-1998.

However, perhaps the pressure of being the son of such a noteworthy figure in the sports world got to him, as the 43-year-old has been in and out of trouble with the law over the past decade.

And now the former 'keeper, who was first arrested back in 2005 due to drug-related charges, has been convicted of money laundering and was sentenced to three decades in prison.

Embarrassment: Pele's son has been sentenced to 33 years in prison for money laundering

At the time of his arrest and subsequent conviction, Edinho was working as a goalkeeping assistant coach for Santos.

His father, when spoken to about his son's arrest in 2005 vehemently denied that his son was involved in any kind of drugs trade.

"There is not a shred of evidence against my son," he stated back in 2006 and continued to visit his son during his previous prison spell.

It remains to be seen how the 73-year-old will deal with his son's most recent conviction.
