TSN 1290 Winnipeg is a commercial radio station in Canada. This station is owned by Bell Media and it specializes in broadcasting live sports events and shows. TSN 1290 Winnipeg works under the acronym CFRW.
The station was launched on November 1, 1963 with an easy listening music format at the 1470 dial. The station was bought by CHUM Ltd in 1974, which also brought a dial change to its current frequency and a new musical approach, since it aired a Top 40 music format. During the later decades of the 20th century, CFRW went from airing contemporary music to Oldies, until the station became part of The Team, a defunct radio sports network which only went from 2001 to 2002. After one more format change to oldies, the radio network was bought by CTVglobemedia in 2007, and it finally returned to an all-sports format in 2010, airing shows from ESPN Radio. In 2011, CFRW was rebranded as TSN Radio 1290.
Throughout its history, TSN 1290 has aired live NHL games and select NFL matches on both Thursdays and Sundays. Added to that, this radio station has broadcast baseball games featuring the Toronto Blue Jays.
