Match Facts & Stats

  • Chelsea have lost just one of their last 10 UCL home fixtures (W6 D3)
  • That was to PSG in the 2016 round of 16 (a 2-1 result)
  • The Blues' record against Spanish sides is  W9 D4 L2 at home
  • Chelsea have won their group in their last three appearances and 11 times in total
  • The only time they have failed to progress to the last 16 was 2012/13, when they became the first holders to go out in the group phase
  • Atletico Madrid have yet  to win, or score, in their travels in this season's UEFA Champions League
  • That includes surprise draws with Roma and most shockingly, Eastern European outfit Qarabag
  • Los Rojiblancos have managed just three victories in their last 11 UEFA Champions League away matches (D4 L4)
  • Atleti had a six-game unbeaten streak against Premier League clubs (W4 D2), home and away, ended by Chelsea on matchday two when they lost 2-1

Preview

Chelsea come into this game having earned a well-deserved 4-0 win over group whipping boys Qarabag to reclaim top spot in their quartet. It was exactly the result the Blues needed after suffering a surprise 3-0 loss to Roma, and now, Antonio Conte's side merely need to avoid dropping points in order to secure top spot at the end of this group stage campaign.

Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, beat Roma 2-0 to keep their qualifying hopes alive. Los Rojiblancos have had a poor Champions League campaign, but certainly have a good shot at snatching second spot ahead of the Giallorossi, although Diego Simeone's troops will need to beat the Blues at Stamford Bridge and hope that the Italian side slip-up in their home fixture against bottom-placed Qarabag.
