As Brazil prepare to take on Ecuador in their opening match of this year's edition of the Copa America, we take a quick look at the team's profile and history in this competition.
Brazil's Copa America history
Brazil come into this tournament as one of the favorites to emerge as the champions, having won it eight times since its inception in 1916. Lately, the Samba Boys have been dominant in this tournament by winning it four times in the last six editions. The last time they won it was back in 2007, but this time round, they will be looking to redeem their image following the disappointing outing in 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2015 edition of the Copa America. This year’s event will be held to honor the tournament’s 100 year-history, and will be the first one to be hosted outside South America.
Recent record
In 2015, the Brazilians played eight international matches, including friendlies. Out of the eight, they won six and lost two. However, the South American giants are yet to register a win in 2016, having secured two two-all draws in their World Cup qualifiers fixtures against Uruguay and Paraguay. As of May 2016's FIFA World Rankings, coach Dunga’s men sit at the 7th position with 1261 points.
Dunga’s profile
Coach Dunga, a former World Cup winner with Brazil as a player, is the man in charge of the Brazil squad that will travel to the United States for this year’s edition of the Copa America. The 52-year-old was named the new Brazil national team coach as Carlos Alberto Parreira’s replacement back in 2006, and won four of his last five matches with the South American side.
He was also in charge of the Brazil side that beat their bitter rivals Argentina 3-0 in the 2007 Copa America final. This was their second consecutive Copa America title and the victory was quite unexpected considering the fact that Argentina were widely seen as the stronger side. In the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Dunga announced his resignation after Brazil went down 2-1 to the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.
He was reinstated as the national team coach in December 2012 after replacing Luiz Felipe Scolari. As manager of the Brazil national team, he has won the Copa America in 2007, Olympic Bronze Medal in 2008, FIFA Confederations Cup in 2009, and the Superclasico des las Americas in 2014. He is now eyeing his second Copa America win with Canarinho.

Rede Globo and SporTV will combine to provide extensive coverage of the Copa America Centenario 2016. Matches will be carried on TV by these major networks in high definition, with games set to be available both live and as repeat broadcasts.
