After a bumpy start to the season, reigning Scudetto champs Milan will look to get back to winning ways as they take on city rivals Inter in the first Derby della Madonnina of the season.

Milan's Scudetto defense has not been the smoothest sailing so far. For the first time in over a decade, the Rossoneri kicked off the Serie A campaign as reigning champs, having won their 19th league title last season. However, Stefano Pioli's men currently find themselves in sixth place, having alternated between a win and a draw from their first four matches. That includes a frustrating scoreless draw with Sassuolo last round, with the Neroverdi certainly being the more pleased of the two sides having ensured that they managed to pick up a point at home.

As such, Milan, who will now face Inter in a much anticipated Derby della Madonnina tie, will hope to rebound quickly in order to close the gap on Roma, who are joint-tied for points at the top of the table. Meanwhile, Inter sit slightly ahead, as the Nerazzurri have won three of their first four games. However, despite victories over smaller sides like Lecce, Spezia and Cremonese, Simone Inzaghi's side were surprisingly disappointing when they faced Inzaghi's former side Lazio in round three.

Despite Lautaro Martinez restoring parity at the Stadio Olimpico, the Biancocelesti eventually won the match 3-1, which will be a very disconcerting result for the 2021 Scudetto winners in their first match against a big side this season. With that in mind, it is safe to say that Inter also will be looking to recover and ensure that they avoid losing as the "away" side at this stadium for the first time in over six years.

Team news: Milan vs Inter

Milan: Alessandro Florenzi is set to miss this game after sustaining a muscular injury during Milan's match against Sassuolo. As a result, new signing Sergino Dest, who becomes the second American to be signed by the Rossoneri may be making his debut in this upcoming tie. Veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic remains out for the long haul as the Swedish international continues his recovery from knee surgery, while fellow striker Ante Rebic will miss this match due to a back injury. However, Divock Origi could return for this match.

Inter: Romelu Lukaku will miss this one due to injury, along with new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who is still not fully fit.
