The French superstar was off the mark for the defending champions in less than 10 seconds following kick-off.

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe has set a new record for the fastest-ever goal to be scored in the history of Ligue 1. The 22-year-old forward needed just eight seconds to fire his side in front in Sunday night's away trip to Lille.

Right from kick-off, it took the visitors just five touches to send a wave of silence across Stade Pierre Mauroy. It was one off the training field and a collective effort, with several movements of the PSG players throwing off the opponents for the perfect man to get at the end of the ball. Lionel Messi was able to ping a ball behind the defense of the host and Mbappe managed to race beyond everyone else to lift the ball over Leo Jardim.

Ligue 1 subsequently announced that the Frenchman had equalled a long-standing record with the goal. Previously, the fastest goal in Ligue 1 history was thought to be Michel Rio of Caen who also scored eight seconds into their match against Cannes on February 15, 1992. Watch Mbappe's goal below:

Mbappe eventually got his hat-trick by scoring twice in the second half as PSG condemned Lille to their biggest-ever home defeat in history via the 7-1 scoreline. Neymar Jr registered two goals and three assists, with Lionel Messi and Hakimi Achraf being the other two players to get on the scoresheet as well. Jonathan Bamba scored the consolation goal for the hosts in their humiliating defeat.
