It is no secret that Manchester United are in need of reinforcements. However, after witnessing their side lose 2-1 at home to Brighton in their opening game of the season, panic has crept in and the Old Trafford executives are now looking at plan B options in the transfer window.
In fact, the English giants made bids for two players in the aftermath of that defeat. One is a striker, which is understandable as Ten Hag was without a no.9 in Sunday's fixture, while the other is a midfielder, an alternative to the prolonged pursuit of Barcelona superstar Frenkie de Jong.
However, neither of those two players are household names. The first on this list is Marko Arnautović, the former West Ham attacker who currently plays for Bologna. Manchester United have reportedly made a $8M bid for the Austrian, but that offer has been turned down by his Italian employers. Nonetheless, as per DiMarzio, the 20-time English champions are expected to return with another proposal.

The other name on Manchester United's list isn't inspiring either. According to David Ornstein of the Athletic, the club are working on a deal for Adrien Rabiot, Juventus' infamous midfielder who joined them from PSG after a Parc des Princes fallout.
Ornstein adds that the Red Devils will have to decide whether they pursue the Frenchman immediately or wait for the conclusion to the Frenkie de Jong saga at the Camp Nou. Other sources claim Ten Hag's side have already reached an agreement with the Old Lady.

Nonetheless, one thing that is certain is the reaction to this news as the pursuit of Arnautovic and Rabiot hasn't gone down well with the Old Trafford fans. Check out the best reactions in the tweets below.
The possibility of signing Arnautovic and Rabiot makes ZERO sense but then again it makes perfect sense because it's Manchester United

Adrien Rabiot would be a statement signing from Man Utd, if that statement is 'we have no idea what we're doing'

Manchester United are working on Adrien Rabiot deal, called today by @David_Ornstein. Talks ongoing but still no agreement on player side with his mother Veronique involved. #MUFC

The agreement with Juventus is not an issue as they're open to sell Rabiot. pic.twitter.com/FIIGrL1Wyo

Adrian Rabiot and Arnautovic in 2022, you can't tell me we aren't a mid table club at this point
— Trey (@UTDTrey) August 8, 2022
Oh and 3 months chasing De Jong to go for Rabiot is sackable for the CEO and DOF. Makes you sick to the core how this club is being run in to the ground

Arnautovic and Rabiot are genuinely 2 footballers I wouldn't even buy on FIFA as free transfers

The irony that Juventus will take the Rabiot money to go buy Paredes, who is a much better player that United could sign if they need a Plan B, is beating me over the head currently
