Chievo Verona host Juventus in the Italian Serie A on September 25, 2013.Preview: Another win a must for Old Lady

After emerging victorious away to Hellas Verona at the weekend, another team from the same region will be looking to get the better of the reigning Italian champions. Indeed, Chievo have always been a tough nut to crack on home soil which means that Antonio Conte’s side will have to work hard to earn a win on Wednesday.

After defeating Hellas on Sunday, La Vecchia Signora would be eager to do the same against their neighbours. Though the game is expected to be more or less played on a similar tempo with the Flying Donkeys playing in their own half to neutralise Juve’s potency while going forward and try to hit the visitors on the counter.

Off the field problems are something that were nowhere to be seen during Conte’s first two campaigns. However, the manager is now sailing in unchartered waters in this regard. After Fernando Llorente’s unhappiness at not being used enough filled newspaper columns all over the country were put to bed, a new issue has seemingly cracked the surface. Star midfielder, Andrea Pirlo is apparently unhappy with his gaffer. The Italy international was called back to the bench in the 66th minute of the game against Hellas, something he did not take that well which was evident by his decision to go straight for the changing rooms rather than going towards the bench.

However, it seems very unlikely that such a rift, if indeed it is one, contaminates the atmosphere in the dressing room. Pirlo has been an integral part of Conte’s plans ever since he joined the Turin giants and the change might have been made keeping in view the midweek encounter which is a must win for the champions who need to make sure that the gap between them and league leaders Roma and Napoli is not widened further.

Apart from Simone Pepe and Martin Caceres, Conte has a fully fit squad to choose from. However, a few changes are expected. Gianluigi Buffon is likely to return in goal while defensive stalwart Giorgio Chiellini will team up with Andrea Bonucci and new boy Angelo Ogbonna in defence. After making a long awaited return for the side on Sunday, Marchisio is expected to be given a start which could provide an opportunity to Arturo Vidal to get some much needed rest.

After beating Udinese 2-1, Chievo registered their first win of the campaign. Despite scoring at the weekend, Sergio Pellissier is likely to be started from the bench by Giuseppe Sannino even though the player has always done well against the Turin giants.
