The Argentine playmaker has enjoyed an his time at Benfica, but all signs point to him signing a lucrative contract in Dubai.

Pablo Aimar is a great addition to any team due to his outstanding talent. Since joining Benfica in the summer of 2008, he has put together 98 appearances in all competitions for the Aguias. Along with those 98 performances, he has also contributed 12 goals.

Unfortunately for El Mago, he has continued to struggle with injuries as he has throughout his career. If not for his constant run ins with the medical room, Aimar could have taken his football to higher levels throughout European Football.

Having only featured in four games this season for Benfica, Aimar's departure has been a constant rumor in the media. This time, it appears Al Ahli is willing to offer Aimar a contract for two and half years worth 4.5 million Euros.

The deal appears to be near completion with just minor details in the way.

Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira and head coach Jorge Jesus are willing to respect Aimar's decision, but they would like to keep the Argentine midfielder.

Also, despite Aimar saying he enjoys life in Lisbon, he is taking his age into consideration. At the age of 33, Aimar is aware that this could be his last chance to get a lucrative contract.

When healthy, Aimar is an obvious asset to the club, but his injuries have kept him off the field. Will losing him hurt the Lisbon side? Obviously not since he is not a starter, but his departure will take a serious amount of talent away from the squads depth.

It will be interesting to see how this transfer saga plays out, but a positive for Benfica out of this deal would be the money they would save if they were able to take Aimar's salary off their books.
