The Frenchman added to his remarkable goalscoring form with a brilliant strike in Sunday's clash with Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was off the mark once more when his side hosted city rivals Atletico Madrid in Sunday night's local derby. The 33-year-old Frenchman sparked wild celebrations throughout the Santiago Bernabeu and on social media as well with yet another collector's item of a goal.

Benzema injured his hamstring a week ago and, as a result, missed this mid-week's Champions League showdown against Inter Milan. He was initially a doubt for the encounter with their local rivals but ended up featuring in the starting lineup with his side being shorthanded in the attack. Having shown a lot of promise with his movement and passes earlier, the Real Madrid No.9's big moment eventually arrived in the 16th minute.

Just as it has been the case for Carlo Ancelotti's side this season, the Frenchman and Vinicius Jr featured in a well-worked attacking move which resulted in the former smashing home a volley with the Brazilian's cross. Watch the goal below:

With the strike, Benzema took his tally in all competitions for this calendar year to 36, surpassing his haul for his best scoring year in his Real Madrid career (35 goals in 2019). On the contrary, Vinícius Júnior now has 18 goal involvements this season following his assist to Karim Benzema (12 goals and six assists) in 23 apps for Real Madrid in 2021/22. His contribution this season is as many as he had in 87 apps in previous two seasons combined.
