The score line does not suggest how the Americans struggled. They had to overcome a 2-0 deficit as Thiney and Delie scored for the French. However, Wambach, Morgan and Lloyd made sure USA accomplished their target of grabbing maximum points.

On Saturday, the United States could seal their passage into the knock-out stage at the expense of the Colombians.

Brazil were on fire against Cameroon. A double from living legend Marta and a strike from key player Cristiane inspired the Brazilians to a well-deserved 5-0 victory. The pre-tournament favourites are looking to hit six points on Saturday.
