The Uruguayan ace came off the bench in the second half and scored in the 99th minute to seal an incredible 1-0 victory at the City Ground.

Liverpool will remain top of the league for another round and the Merseyside giants have Darwin Nunez to thank.

The Reds visited Nottingham Forest in one of six simultaneous Saturday kick-offs knowing that a win at the City Ground would do wonders for their title charge. Klopp's men face Manchester City next in the league and with the Cityzens hosting the struggling Manchester United this Sunday, the Reds could not afford to drop points.

However, Van Dijk and Co. appeared destined for exactly that after failing to find the back of the net throughout the 90 minutes. Fortunately, Darwin Nunez, with the help of Alexis Mac Allister, came to the rescue and scored the winning goal with only a few seconds left on the clock.

Eight minutes were added and in the ninth minute of added time, the Uruguayan attacker received a brilliant cross from the aforementioned Argentine midfielder following a chaotic corner kick that Callum Hudson-Odoi failed to clear. Nunez made no mistake as he guided the ball into the back of the net with a silky header.

This goal sparked pandemonium in the away end, with Darwin and club captain Virgil van Dijk enjoying this effort. Check it out in the clips below (videos are geo-restricted).

Play restarted after the goal but only for a few seconds before the referee blew for full-time. With that result, Liverpool temporarily move four points clear at the top.

The focus now shifts to their two nearest rivals Manchester City and Arsenal, who face Manchester United and Sheffield respectively. Both teams are expected to win their fixtures, hence the importance of this Nottingham Forest trip.

The Merseyside giants' next league game is an Anfield showdown with Guardiola's men. However, the Reds face Sparta Praha in the UEFA Europa League before that but expect Klopp to rotate for that game so he can field his strongest possible lineup against the reigning Premier League champions.
