With the Belgian out for the 2023-24 season, Los Merengues have to work overtime to find a suitable replacement that can contribute right away.

It has been a shocking day for Real Madrid after Thibaut Courtois was ruled out for the entire 2023-24 season due to a knee injury, but Los Blancos have wasted no time to find the player's replacement and there could be some interesting news ahead.

The Spanish giants have reportedly begun the search for a new shot-stopper, and they have turned their heads to some familiar faces that could fill the void left by the Belgian ace.

According to Diario As, Los Merengues have identified Kepa Arrizabalaga and David De Gea as the top priorities to replace Courtois. Both footballers could join the team quickly, but it is the length of a potential deal what could complicate any deals for both of them.

Apparently, the safest bet would be David De Gea, as he is currently a free agent. De Gea was famously linked to Los Merengues back in 2015, but Manchester United failed to submit his transfer papers in time to make the deal happen. The Spaniard was recently released by Manchester United after a 12-year span with the Red Devils.

On the other hand, Kepa is still under contract with Chelsea, but since the club are yet to make a decision on who their No. 1 goalkeeper will be under Mauricio Pochettno, the chances of sealing a loan deal are reduced.

Other options considered by Real Madrid include Sevilla's Bono, former Inter Milan skipper Samir Handanovic, and Unai Simón. Nevertheless, their options to join Los Merengues are slim, according to journalists close to the team's camp.
