We have seen now ten games for the 2023 Leagues Cup, and the next five promise to give us something to talk about thanks to the teams that will be involved in the third day of the competition.
The tournament has already given us some highlights to remember, starting with Lionel Messi's late winner for Inter Miami and the seemingly never-ending penalty shootout between León and Vancouver, which ended in a whopping 18-17 win for León, getting them the extra point while at it.
Now, for Sunday's games, fans will be able to see Atlas, one of the most dominant teams in Liga MX during the past years. On the other side of the border, teams such as Cincinnati and St. Louis City will be making their debut in the tournament. Both Cincy and the expansion team for this season have dominated MLS games this year, and it will be interesting to watch how they perform against Liga MX opposition when the time comes to do so.
Without further ado, here is the list of games being played on July 23.
New York City vs Atlas
The team from the Big Apple get ready to face Atlas, one of the best teams in Liga MX but who are currently in a rebuilding process. Los Rojinegros have recently parted ways with two of their top players: Julián Quiñones and Julio Furch, who will be missed by Atlas' fans due to their contributions to their recent success. Meanwhile, the Cityzens will see this competition as a chance to redeem themselves, mainly because their MLS campaign has been an utter disappointment. This game is one of the few in this group stage where there is a bit of history between the rivals, as Atlas will want to get some payback from their 2-0 Campeones Cup loss to NYCFC back in September 2022.

Columbus Crew vs St. Louis City
In what will be the first-ever match between the Crew and the club from the Gateway City, both sides will want to put some ground between them and Liga MX's América, one of the early title contenders in this competition. The Crew get to this game ranked sixth in the Eastern Conference, while St. Louis has shocked the entire league by topping the Western Conference for most of the season and right before the pause that gave way to this tournament. If history had a say on this game, the two-time MLS Cup winners should be given an upper hand over the expansion team, but St. Louis' form all season makes us believe that you should go all in with them in this clash.

Cincinnati vs Sporting KC
The top team in the Eastern Conference, and with that the leaders in the race to win the Supporters' Shield, get to face Kansas City in an interesting Leagues Cup fixture. The hosts have never been able to beat Sporting KC after two attempts (one draw, one loss), and given their current form, this seems like the best chance they will get to start adding wins to their record against the Wizards. To make things even more promising for the Orange and Blue, coach Pat Noonan has reported a full squad to choose from for this game, while Sporting KC will have to make do without four players, including Graham Zusi and Willy Agada.

Nashville SC vs Colorado Rapids
The last game featuring only U.S.-based teams this Sunday will include Nashville, one of the most consistent teams in this MLS season, and the Rapids, who were relegated to last place in the Western Conference just before the All-Star break. The Boys in Gold have not lost against Colorado in their two previous games, winning both matches against the founding members of the league. Nevertheless, the team led by Robin Fraser will be keen on putting an end to that winless run. Both teams have reported absences for this game, which will certainly have an effect on the kind of strategy they apply to try and win this game.

Puebla vs Minnesota United
A second Liga MX team will be involved in Sunday's games, and it will be none others than the enigmatic Puebla. La Franja have struggled to find their feet since Nicolás Larcamón left them, and under coach Eduardo Arce, the team has only been able to collect one point this season, leaving them in 17th place before the start of this tournament. Now, the white and blue team will face Minnesota United in a historic clash, where Puebla will face a team from the MLS for the first time since 2010, while Minnesota United are set to face a non-MLS club for the first time since their inception.
