The Netherlands, who finished the last World Cup as runners-up, will take on debutants Portugal in their group stage opener on Sunday, July 23rd.

Four years ago, the Netherlands made it to the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup final, where they were beaten 2-0 thanks to a brace from USWNT star Megan Rapinoe. While it was a disappointing result for the Oranje, it was nonetheless an impressive achievement considering it was only the second appearance for the side after making their debut in 2015.

Last summer, however, the Netherlands disappointed at the Women's EURO competition where they were knocked out in the quarter-finals. It was a surprising result, especially considering that they had won the same competition only five years prior, and now, they come into their third World Cup keen on trying to go one step further and get their hands on the coveted prize.

Meanwhile, Portugal, who have lost just one of their last 12 matches, will be looking to make a splash at their first ever World Cup. Although they're in a very tough group, the debutants have scored in all but two of their last 19 games and could pose some problems for their upcoming opponents.
