The Dutch forward got his first Premier League goal to inspire Liverpool to a win over the bitter rivals.

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo sparked a frenzy on Twitter after celebrating his first Premier League in Monday night's Merseyside derby. The 23-year-old winger finally put the criticisms against his to bed by putting the Reds up by two goals in the night's affair inside Anfield. Gakpo joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven for a fee of $47M but has had a difficult start to life in the premiership.

Despite showing a knack of scoring for his former club and the Dutch national team at the World Cup in Qatar, the winger had been unable to replicate this form at Anfield. Ahead of the meeting with Everton, he had failed to register a goal or an assist for the Reds in six appearances, adding to the club's poor run of form that has left them battling to stay in the top half of the table.

In Monday's clash with Everton, a wave of redemption blew in the direction of the Dutchman as he finally broke the duck and got his name on the scoresheet. Liverpool utilized an electrifying counterattack to get their first goal through Mohamed Salah in the 36th minute. Just four minutes into the second half, Cody Gakpo doubled the host's advantage by tapping the ball home from close range at the end of another counterattack.
