January 27, 2023 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Blues have added another top talent to their roster, taking their recruitment count for January to eight.

Chelsea have added to their long list of signings for the month of January with the acquisition of Olympique Lyon full-back Malo Gusto. The have successfully agreed a deal with the French side for the defender but have loan him back to Les Gones as to the club for the rest of the season.

Earlier this week, Chelsea opened negotiations with the entourage of Malo Gusto and managed to agree personal terms with the player. It was speculated that Manchester United were equally keen on acquiring the service of the 19-year-old and even proceeded to advise the full-back against making a hasty decision.

With the Red Devils eyeing a potential move in the summer, they have been beaten to the signature of the right-back for a fee in the excess of £26 million. This comes after Lyon rejected an offer Wednesday, Lyon rejected an opening offer of £17.6M offer while insisting that the Frenchman would not be allowed to leave before the summer.

All is now set, with Gusto expected to undergo a medical in London the coming days. He will subsequently return to Lyon to complete the season and move to Stamford Bridge permanently in the summer. The 19-year-old joins Chelsea as the eighth signing of the winter transfer window, following in the footsteps of Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk, João Felix, Benoît Badiashile, Andrey Santos, Christopher Nkunku, and David Datro Fofana.
