Criticisms of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea have made rounds after the goalkeeper made a bizarre error leading to a goal against Everton on Friday night. The Spaniard handed the Toffes a glimmer of hope in the FA Cup third round encounter by committing a mistake that led to the visitors managing an equalizer at Old Trafford.
Manchester United were 1-0 up after just three minutes thanks to Antony. The Brazilian marked a return to the starting lineup by brilliantly converting an assist from the in-form Marcus Rashford. However, not long after the pair combined to break the deadlock, parity was restored in a rather uncanny manner.
The moment arrived when Neal Maupay shot low and wide from the byline in an attempt to beat De Gea at the near post. However, the United shot-stopper failed to bring the French striker's tame effort under control as it made it way in-between his legs. Conor Coady immediately pounced to put the ball in the net for Everton's equaliser just 10 minutes after the opener. Watch:

Needless to say, the match result ended up overshadowing what would have been a day to forget for De Gea. A Conor Coady own-goal coupled with Marcus Rashford's 97th minute penalty gave Manchester United a smooth passage into the next round of the FA Cup. Below is how some fans reacted to De Gea's blunder:
On a night where David de Gea was adamant not use his hands, Marcus Rashford powerful performance and Antony confidence boosting performance, most importantly Erik ten Hag's Manchester United are through in the FA Cup. Fantastic.

Holding onto the post when facing shots from tight angles causes issues as it disrupts the set position!

Thus #DeGea cannot control the parry & knees it to an area with 88% rebound probability!
An avg GK would be expected to parry it into an area with rebound probability 15% pic.twitter.com/rtfz4KLXFH
Thank heavens that goalkeeper David De Gea forgot he was allowed to use his hands to prevent goals. #MUNEVE #FACup pic.twitter.com/e2SYOgu3Ks

Can't get over how bad that is from David De Gea.

Reminder: He is the highest paid goalkeeper in the world.
How gullible is our fanbase to think David de Gea was responsible for our clean sheets. He is the worse keeper in the league and he's proved it once again.
