Jorge Mendes responds Ronaldo transfer rumors

Transfer: Jorge Mendes responds to claims of Ronaldo's imminent switch to Sporting CP

May 14, 2021 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Portuguese super agent has reacted to rumors of the Juventus star considering a move back home.

Cristiano Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes has rubbished claims that the Juventus star is on his way back to his boyhood club Sporting CP. The Portuguese superstar has been linked with a move back to his boyhood club this summer following a rather a turbulent season with former Serie A champions Juventus.

Despite being the Banconeri's top-goalscorer this season, Ronaldo has seen his side fall short of expectations. The Turin outfit agonizingly crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of FC Porto and followed this up by missing out on winning the Scudetto to rivals Inter Milan. However, the prospect of going trophyless this season may well be extinguished when the Old Lady takes on Atalanta in the final of the Coppa Italia.

On the league table, Juventus risk missing out on Champions League football for next season. With two games left of the season to play, the former title holders sit in fifth position - a point behind fourth-placed Napoli. Reports from Italy suggest that Cristiano Ronaldo may consider moving out of the club should they fail to qualify for Europe's elite football competition with his boyhood club Sporting said to be a potential destination for the winger.

Earlier this week, Ronaldo's mother Dolores Aveiro also fuelled speculation over his purported switch to Lisbon by claiming she would 'talk to her son about a return'. However, the player's agent Jorge Mendes has since come out to squash the speculations. Talking to Portuguese publication Record, he said: "Cristiano is proud of the title won by Sporting (this season), as he has publicly demonstrated,"

"But at the moment his career plans do not go through Portugal."

For the first time since the season before Cristiano Ronaldo completed his move to Manchester United in 2003, Sporting CP emerged as winners of the Portuguese Primiera title, taking over the crown from FC Porto.
