Manchester United don’t want to be fooled by the rather small size of Leeds on paper. The Red Devils know what it means to lose to tonight’s hosts…
This season, winning the Carling Cup is a task written on Manchester United’s to-do list. With rivals Liverpool also showing their intent to triumph, the competition has become even more interesting. Michael Carrick even believes that Ferguson will choose experience over youth freshness for Tuesday night’s League Cup match away to Leeds.

The midfielder, who missed Manchester United’s 1-0 shocking defeat to Leeds in January 2010, is hoping to find favor in Fergie’s sight. He was quoted as saying on Man United’s official website:

“We are well aware of what Leeds means. [It’s a big game] because of the fans and the rivalry over the years. I am sure the manager will pick a strong team.

But papers in England are expecting Michael Owen and Federico Macheda to lead Manchester United's attack. Anders Lindeegard should also replace David de Gea who featured against Chelsea last weekend.

Antonio Valencia, meanwhile, might occupy the right-back position due to Chris Smalling's absence through injury. In other team news, French midfielder Paul Pogba is set to enjoy his first team debut as a reward for his impressive performance in United's FA Youth Cup last season.

Fans will hope that the absence of top stars won't be felt. Michael Carrick is not ready to suffer another upset against Leeds. The English man was quoted as saying:

“That [1-0 defeat in January 2010] was a bad day for us, but that’s gone now. We’re looking forward to going there this time. I’m guessing it will be a full house. It will be a nice hot atmosphere.”

History tells that Leeds and Manchester United have met 106 times with the last meeting occurring in January 2010. The Red Devils have the head-to-head advantage over their old-time rivals with 45 wins against 26 defeats.

In the Carling Cup, both sides have met as many as four times and Manchester United are expected to record their fifth League Cup victory against Leeds on Tuesday night. After all, the Elland Road has produced 5 Manchester United wins in all competitions whereas the hosts have only beaten the Red Devils twice since 1996.
