Manchester City has shown to be the best team so far in the Premier League this season, boasting a 12-game winning streak that has taken the team to the top of the table. NBC has leaned onto any game featuring Man City, as American fans look to watch the most exciting soccer the Premier League has to offer. In return, NBC decided to feature Manchester City for a second week in a row in their lone broadcast of the week. Manchester City delivered once again by trumping Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. The broadcast received a 0.57 viewership rating after it attracted 969,000 average viewers.
The second and third most-watched soccer games on U.S. TV from Tuesday, Feb. 9 and Monday, Feb. 15 were also Premier League games but screened on NBC Sports Network. Arsenal’s 4-2 home win over Leeds led by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s hattrick on Sunday ranked second last week, receiving a 0.32 viewership rating for the 594,000 average viewers that tuned into the broadcast. Sunday’s 9 a.m. ET game between West Brom and Manchester United ended in a one-all draw and ranked third last week. The game received a 0.27 viewership rating along with the 451,000 average viewers that tuned into the broadcast.
Fox Deportes broadcasted the FIFA Club World Cup Final between Bayern Munich and Tigres UANL on Thursday, Feb. 11. Bayern won the game by a Benjamin Pavard goal that separated the two sides until the end of the game. The broadcast was deemed successful after attracting 344,000 average viewers and receiving a 0.14 viewership rating. Another Fox Deportes telecast that had a good showing was a Liga MX game between Santos Laguna and Monterrey. Santos found a 1-0 win, ending a three-game tying streak. The game received a 0.12 rating for the 283,000 average viewers that tuned in.
Despite Fox Deportes taking the spotlight last week, TUDN broadcasted five Liga MX games. The most successful of the five featured league-leaders Club America, who defeated Queretaro 2-1 to stay in charge of the Liga MX table. The broadcast received a 0.10 viewership rating after 272,000 average viewers saw the game.
