PSG could be forced to sell Neymar and Mbappé

PSG's alleged financial problems could force French giants to sell BOTH Neymar and Mbappé

January 22, 2021 By Oscar Rojas
Recent reports suggest that sporting director Leonardo would be keen on keeping at least one of these players during the summer transfer window.

It seems that not even the wealthiest teams in the world have been able to cope with the monetary losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and this time, it is PSG who may be forced to sell one of their brightest stars to cope with those losses and keep their dream of having Messi around.

According to L'Equipe, the French side has handed a document to Ligue 1's National Management Control Board, (or DNCG, its French acronym), where they report a €204M (around $248M) deficit compared to last season. With those numbers in mind, it seems that Les Parisiens will be forced to let at least one of their stars leave the club this summer.

Sources consulted by L'Equipe have revealed that PSG is still trying to lure Lionel Messi to Parc des Princes, but if they want to do that, either Neymar or Kylian Mbappé will be forced to leave the club. Even so, the departure of one of these players would not be enought to cover Lionel Messi's wages at the club, if he ended up joining the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League runners-up next summer.

Sporting director Leonardo has stated to the sources consulted by L'Equipe that, if one of them has to leave, then the club would choose to keep Neymar around and part ways with Mbappé, who would seemingly be easier to sell. Mbappé has been linked to Real Madrid, Liverpool, and even Bayern München, but there have not been any official offers for the striker.

Either way, the chances of watching either one of these stars leaving the club will surely make the summer transfer window a bit more appealing than the current one, where transfer deals have not been as frequent due to the financial problems faced by most teams around the world.
