Tokyo 2020 is approaching, and Carli Lloyd is showing no signs of weakness as she looks to bring gold back to the United States.

There is a sense of dissatisfaction and will to return to top form coming from the Carli Lloyd and, perhaps, it is not a bad thing.

Lloyd featured as a part of the USWNT starting 11 in three out of five Concacaf Olympic Women's Qualifying tournament matches. The 36-year-old forward scored one goal out of the team's 25 and did not start in the final. In addition to these late woes, the Stars and Stripes suffered an early exit at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. Sweden frustrated the Americans with a strong defensive performance taking the match to penalty kicks.

But Lloyd is far from giving up. It's personal now. The veteran forward is determined to make the tournament roster, earn a definite starting position and lead her nation to an Olympic gold medal.

Just me, the field, cones, sticks, hurdles and my music. No one sees the work when no one is watching. The grind every single day. The addiction to want to continue to keep getting better. The thought process that goes into implementing what I'm working on in training and trying to apply it in my games. It's a switch that is always turned on. These are my big moments. The moments that make it all worth it. The world sees the glory moments. The trophies lifted. The medals won, but very few actually see what it takes to get to these moments. I'm not here to prove my worth to anyone but myself. I know what it takes and I know the work that is required to continue to break barriers. I Empty The Tank every day and continue to be a student of the game striving to be the best I can be! #theroadtotokyo2020

The FIFA Women's World Cup Instagram account suggested that the post and the caption should be a "how to be a champion" mantra.

In addition, they reposted Lloyd's post on their account hinting at making it a poster.

Alex Morgan is also determined to participate in the Olympics, but her situation is a bit different from Lloyd's. The two-time World Cup winner, Morgan, is expecting a baby girl in April but that's not stopping her from achieving her goals.

This video was taken in January and she has continued to assist USWNT practices since.

This is one of the reasons why the USWNT is regarded as the world's best. This ambition mixed with passion, learning, training and perseverance has brought titles back home for decades and there are no signs of stopping.
