Stats: How Rashford-Martial-Greenwood trio is bossing Liverpool's front three

January 17, 2020 By Ali M.
In the stats department, Man United's front three boast superior numbers to Salah-Mane-Firmino.

Liverpool and Man United are gearing up for their Super Sunday clash and while it is generally accepted that the Reds are superior in every position, this might not be exactly true in the attack.

Mane, Salah, and Firmino are considered as one of the best attacking trios in Europe, coming in at 4th, 5th, and 17th in the recent Ballon d'Or standings. Despite this, they boast inferior stats to Man United's trio of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Mason Greenwood.

The three Red Devils attackers have combined to score more goals than Liverpool's front three, netting 39 times in all competitions compared to the 38 strikes from the Anfield trio. While it might just be a one-goal difference, a deeper look into these stats shows how impressive this achievement is.

Man Utd's attacking trio vs Liverpool's front three

Man Utd: Rashford (19 goals), Martial (11 goals), and Greenwood (9 goals)

Liverpool: Mane (15 goals), Salah (14 goals), and Firmino (9 goals)

Solskjaer's trio has spent less time on the pitch together, and by a mile, spending only 337 minutes together. Klopp's front three, on the other hand, have 1,867 minutes together on the pitch this season.

As a result, the minutes-per-goal ratio heavily favors the Old Trafford men, netting once every 135.7 minutes compared to once every 191.4 minutes for Salah-Mane-Firmino. This is despite the creative fullbacks and stable midfield Liverpool's front three have at their expense, something that cannot be said for Man United.

Regardless, these stats will amount to nothing if the Red Devils cannot deliver at Anfield. Rashford is a doubt, which is a huge worry for Ole who was already in for a tough task against Van Dijk and Co.
