The former Red Devils' boss has dropped a few pointers about the young English striker.

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has warned the Red Devils against using Marcus Rashford as a target man. The Portuguese manager has advised his successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to use the English starlet in his rightful position in order to get the best out of him.

In recent weeks, the 21-year-old former academy star has come under massive criticism for his dip in form which has directly impacted Manchester United's goalscoring record. Prior to Sunday's meeting with Liverpool, he was without a goal in five appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils.

Against the current league leaders at Old Trafford, Rashford ended his scoring drought by grabbing the opener before Adam Lallana scored the equaliser for the visitors. The former's ex-boss Jose Mourinho reckons that he is still yet to come good and could benefit heavily from being deployed in different role upfront rather than a No. 9.

"When we beat Liverpool a couple of years ago, we played with Rashford and Romelu Lukaku up front. He is not a target man, he is a man of movement," he told Sky Sports.

"I do not think he is a pure nine. If Ole is going to play him as he did today then I think he is the perfect player for him.

"He's young but he is experienced. With 21 years he probably has more matches than some players who are 24, 25. For me he is potentially a very good player, in some models and in some positions.

"As a number nine I don't think he has the 30 goals a season in him. I don't think he can get better as a target man. To be better as a target man is difficult for him."
