Atletico Madrid provides update on Felix's injury

Atletico Madrid reveals the extent of record signing's injury

October 19, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
Diego Simeone's side were dealt a massive blow in the weekend's home encounter.

La Liga side Atletico Madrid has confirmed that Portuguese sensation Joao Felix picked up an ankle injury in Saturday's clash with Valencia. Los Rojiblancos made the revelation after drawing 1-1 with the visitors.

While the attacking prowess of Diego Simeone's side has been questionable for the early part of the season, their woes were further deepened with Felix going down almost 10 minutes to the end of proceeding. Unable to continue, the former Benfica starlet limped off the field and was not replaced since his side had already exhausted all of its three substitutions.

Moments later, Valencia's capitalised on the one-man advantage as Dani Parejo canceling out Diego Costa's first-half strike in the 82nd minute. The outcome of the game meant that Los Rojiblancos have now won just one of the last four outings in all competitions. They have drawn the remaining three games.

Meanwhile, post-match assessment of Joao Felix's injury revealed that he twisted his right ankle. However, information on how long the Portuguese starlet is supposed to stay out of action was not communicated.

Joao Félix underwent an X-ray and MRI scan at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra on Saturday evening which confirmed a grade II right ankle sprain," the statement bluntly read.

According to Catalonia newspaper Sport, the forward is expected to miss between four to six games, If all things turn out right, the forward should return and face Espanyol on November 10.
