Solskjaer responds to abuse aimed at Rashford for penalty miss vs Crystal Palace

The England striker has been targeted by racist fans on social media for his penalty miss in Saturday's home defeat.

Solskjaer responds to racial abuse aimed at Rashford for penalty miss vs Crystal Palace Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has once again lashed out at fans on social media who spewed abuse at Marcus Rashford for missing a penalty in Saturday's defeat to Crystal Palace. The English forward became the second victim in the Norwegian manager's side to suffer racial after missing a spot-kick.

On Monday, the whole Manchester United fraternity came out in its numbers to offer solidarity to Paul Pogba who was heavily abused on social media by racist trolls. The Frenchman suffered the unfortunate plight by squandering a crucial spot-kick in the 1-1 draw with Wolves at the Molineux.

With players and fans alike calling for action to be taken against the guilty parties who hide behind numerous accounts to spread hatred, the debate of who should be the Red Devils' first-choice penalty-taker emerged. Ahead of Saturday's matchup with Palace, Solskjaer revealed that both Pogba and Rashford are equally capable of stepping up to do due diligence.

Quite, fortuitously, the latter - who agreed to pass on last Monday's spot-kick to his French teammate - was presented the opportunity to make amends after Roy Hodgson's side conceded one in the 70th minute of the weekend's encounter. However, the desired outcome was not achieved with the England international hitting the woodwork with his effort.

Although Daniel James successfully scored in the 89th minute to cancel out Jordan Ayew's first-half opener, Manchester United was denied the chance to secure a point with Van Aanholt scoring the eventual game winner for Palace inside the third-minute of added time.

The aftermath of the clash saw Marcus Rashford suffering the same fate as Paul Pogba a few days ago, prompting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to slam the activities of those who frequently spew racial abuse.

"I am lost for words," he admitted in the post-match presser.

"These people keep hiding behind fake identities. It's crazy that in 2019 we are still talking about this.
