Rudiger involved in scuffle as Sarri is sent off

WATCH: Rudiger involved in touchline scuffle after Sarri gets sent off in Burnley draw

April 22, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
Tempers flew between the Chelsea defender and some members of Burnley's backroom staff.

German defender Antonio Rudiger was pictured in a brawl at full-time after Chelsea were held at home against Burnley on Monday night. The 26-year-old center back who did not make the matchday squad saw his side's chances of making a statement in their bid for a top-four finish evaporate following the 2-2.

The twists and turns in Premier League encounter were ushered in very quickly after Burnley grabbed the game's opener in the eighth minute through a stunning volley by Irish international Jeff Hendricks.

Four minutes later, Eden Hazard and N'Golo Kante combined for Chelsea's equalizer while Gonzalo Higuain registered his third goal for the Blues moments later. Parity was subsequently restored by Ashley Barnes in the 24 minutes.

The second half produced no goal and the drama in the Monday night clash dragged on till the very final minutes of the game. First, an animated Gonzalo Higuain was seen chucking bibs and a water bottle on to the floor after being replaced in the 77th minute by Olivier Giroud.

Late into added time, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri was then given orders to depart from the sidelines for moving out of his technical area to shout instructions at his players. With boos resounding throughout the Stamford Bridge in response to the unfavorable outcome of the match, the Chelsea bench led by Antonio Rüdiger was seen in a brief tussle with the Burnley backroom staff.

At the moment, the Blues sits in the fourth position with 67 points after 35 matches and are trailed by Arsenal and Manchester United who have 66 and 64 points respectively and a game in hand.
