Didier Deschamps is a huge candidate for this award but will face competition from 10 other managers.

Today is Tuesday and with it comes the list of nominees for FIFA’s The Best awards. World football’s governing body revealed that they will announce the names of the candidates for each of their four main award – the Men’s Coach, Women’s Coach, Men’s Player, and Women’s Player prizes.

The nomination list for The Best Men’s Coach accolade consisted of names that enjoyed success at a club and international level. This comes as little surprise as the FIFA World Cup was this summer and saw a number of tacticians rise to fame.

One obvious inclusion was Didier Deschamps, who guided France to the coveted trophy in Russia. However, lifting the trophy was not the only criteria for being nominated as Zlatko Dalic, the man who inspired Croatia to a remarkable runner-up finish, also made the list.

They were joined by Roberto Martinez and Gareth Southgate, both of whom led their respective nations to the World Cup semi-finals. Stanislav Cherchesov also received a nod after the Russia boss took the host nation to the quarter-finals, eliminating Spain along the way.

Every other name from there on is a club manager. Zinedine Zidane is an expected inclusion after getting his hands on a third straight Champions League title. The manager who he overcame to win the trophy, Jurgen Klopp, was also nominated.

The gaffers who won the leagues in England, Italy, and Spain last season – Pep Guardiola, Massimiliano Allegri, and Ernesto Valverde – also made the cut. Diego Simeone finished off the 11-man list due to his Europa League success with Atletico Madrid.
