De Gea explains why he couldn't save CR7's goal

David De Gea explains why he couldn't save Ronaldo's second goal

June 15, 2018 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
It was a night to forget for the Spanish shot-stopper.

The usually reliable David De Gea fell directly into the hands of his critics for the role he played in Portugal's second goal against Spain in Friday's 3-3 draw. The 27-year-old goalkeeper gifted the Seleccao a second goal by making a mess of a shot fired by Cristiano Ronaldo in the 44th minute.

Following the end of the clash, the Manchester United No.1 revealed in a post-match interview that the shot was difficult to deal with.

"It was a hard goal to concede. He [Cristiano] hit it really hard and I couldn't stop it," De Gea said.

"I am happy about the reaction of the team; I think we deserved more.

"Football is like that, this can happen, it's mistakes, we put on our gloves and go out into the field.

"We know how difficult it is but I count on the support of the coach and my colleagues, to continue and that support that they give me to demonstrate on the field."

De Gea subsequently resorted to his Instagram page to encourage his fans as Spain gears up for their second game against table-toppers Iran on June 20.
