Transfer news from England tells that Chelsea are close to completing a £21.5M deal for Benfica’s David Luiz. It should only be a matter of days for this transfer matter to be done and dusted.
The Guardian has reported that the Blues are hopeful of agreeing terms late on Monday. In the meantime, the club is also waiting for a reply to their application for David Luiz’s work permit. The gigantesque transfer fee of £21.5M will make the Benfica man Chelsea’s most expensive signing since ex-AC Milan star Shevchenko who landed at Stamford Bridge for £30M back in 2006.

Transfer rumours, or rather, transfer speculations about David Luiz’s move to Chelsea instantly intensified last weekend when the player was dropped from the Benfica side that defeat Nacional 4-2. But The Guardian have now confirmed that David Luiz is ready to travel for a medical to London before eventually getting the right to officially become a Chelsea member soon.

According to reports, what has helped David Luiz’s transfer to Chelsea become possible has been the Blue’s offer for Benfica to take one or two young players on loan as a makeweight. Patrick van Aanholt, Jeffrey Bruma and Slobodan Rajkovic are the three names that have popped up out of speculations.

In general, Chelsea will be satisfied to be so close to completing the transfer of David Luiz whereas Benfica will be comforted by the enormous amount of money which they are set to receive in exchange of their player. The next interesting point in this transfer issue is based on two things: how will Benfica cope with the loss of such an influential player and what if David Luiz flops in London just as Shevchenko disappointed following his mega-money move?
