Internazionale’s new manager Leonardo is yet to execute his duties on the pitch. But the atmosphere is already building itself rather well to kill off pressure.
Unlike it was for Rafael Benitez, Coach Leonardo has already received the backing of former Inter Milan boss and two-time treble winner Jose Mourinho. Now Al-Ahli Dubai’s Fabio Cannavaro – who captained Italy’s national football team to World Cup glory in 2006 – has endorsed Internazionale’s newcomer.

Italian news agency, La Gazzetta dello Sport, quoted the ex-Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid defender as saying concerning the sacking of Rafael Benitez which followed with the appointment of Leonardo:

“[Rafael] Benitez? Well, he is a good coach. But, he could have waited a couple of days after winning the [FIFA] Club World Cup tournament before making clear-cut statements to the public.

“But to Leonardo, I wish good luck. And I think Inter have returned to the atmosphere in which the club was five years ago.”

Coach Leonardo’s first match in charge of Internazionale will be against Napoli on January 6. The outcome of this encounter may reveal a lot about the kind of spell Leonardo will have at Inter until 2012 when his contract is set to expire.
