Internazionale’s FIFA Club World Cup triumph last weekend might have been the club’s last win under the guidance of Coach Rafael Benitez. The Spaniard looks to be on his way out…
In an interview which seemed to reveal the critical condition between the Inter Milan manager and the board, Rafa issued an ultimatum as he declared following his side’s victory over TP Mazembe:

“The club has three possibilities.

“One: to fully support the coach and to buy four or five players to build a stronger. In other words, to have a squad where there’s much competition between the players to be able to keep winning matches and titles.

“Two: to carry on like this without a project, without plans, and to go ahead – from now till May – blaming one person.

“The third possibility is to speak to my agent and to reach an agreement if support isn’t giving. Simple.”
Evidently, Rafael Benitez’s blunt comments didn’t go too well with Internazionale’s club president Massimo Moratti who preferred not to comment on the Spaniard’s future at the San Siro.

“Benitez’s statements haven’t ruined the [FIFA World Club Cup] party,” Moratti told Sport.it. “The timing was not quite appropriate, but any Internazionale fan would still be celebrating the win.

“I’m not going to speak about the situation involving Benitez at the moment.”

However, reports claim that Massimo Moratti is actively working to replace the ex-Liverpool manager anytime soon. For many, this may sound as the wisest thing to do. The fact is that Inter Milan are seventh in the Serie A table. Now despite having two games in hand, the club’s fans certainly have a point to feel frustrated since the Nerazzurri are thirteen points behind their rivals and league leaders AC Milan.

A new man has to redeem the club from going astray and reports reveal that Massimo Moratti doesn’t believe that this “new man” is within Rafael Benitez. According to the media in Italy, Internazionale’s form this season isn’t the only reason why President Massimo Moratti is planning to sack Rafa. It is suggested that the Spaniard might have self-destroyed his career at the San Siro through his “back-or-sack-me” comments.

The two men on Inter Milan’s radar are ex-Rossoneri manager Leonardo and current Zenit St. Petersburg boss Luciano Spalletti. The leading contender among the two is said to be Spalletti, who is presently in Italy for Christmas holidays, as Internazionale’s technical director Marco Branco is thus expecting to lure the coach more easily.

Inter Milan will resume their Italian Serie A campaign on January 6, with a match against Napoli. By then, will Rafael Benitez still be the club’s manager?
