The Mexican star and the French ace will face each other on Wednesday, but who's got better stats prior to the second leg of the Atlético-Bayer showdown?

Whenever two top-caliber strikers face each other, it's customary to compare their stats to see who could influence his team the most to look for a victory. Today, Javier "Chicharito" Hernández will have one of his toughest tests, as he tries to lead Bayer Leverkusen past Antoine Griezmann's Atlético Madrid.

The former Man United striker will be Bayer's go-to guy when Die Werkself try to beat Atlético by a three-goal margin, something that will take more than just a smile. Considering the Mexican's stats this season, things could get a bit ugly for the German crew.

After a scintillating first season with Bayer Leverkusen, Chicharito has found it hard to replicate his good form with the team. Experiencing problems away from the pitch -which included a breakup with his former girlfriend, Lucía Villalón-, the Mexican striker found himself in a 100-day slump without a goal, which took a toll in his overall stats this season.

"Chicharito's" 2016-17 season stats:

  • Games (all comps): 31

  • Minutes: 2338

  • Bundesliga goals: 10

  • UEFA Champions League goals: 1

  • DFB Pokal goals: 1

  • Assists (all comps): 3

"Chicharito" spent the final months of 2016 without being able to score a goal.

On the other hand, Antoine Griezmann has been the driving force behind Atlético's recent success, as the Frenchman has risen from the ashes and led Los Colchoneros from the 9th spot in La Liga to the 4th, while keeping their chances of a second straight UEFA Champions League final alive.

Griezmann's goal scoring skills were almost hidden during the first half of the season, as he tried to recover from a summer in which he lost the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Euro 2016 finals in less than 50 days. Apparently, he found his goal scoring shoes just in time to help Atlético's title hopes.

Antoine Griezmann's 2016-2017 stats:

  • Games (all comps): 38

  • Minutes: 3297

  • La Liga goals: 13

  • UEFA Champions League goals: 4

  • Copa del Rey goals: 4

  • Assists (all comps): 8

Griezmann may be living his final season with Atlético Madrid, as rumors of a possible transfer to Manchester United keep emerging.
