Match facts

  • The last time these two sides met in the league, Arsenal demolished Chelsea 3-0.
  • However, a lot has changed since then. The Blues currently top the league, whilst the Gunners sit in third, nine points behind the leaders.
  • If – and that’s a big if – the north London outfit win, it will be their first double over the Blues since 03/04.
  • Unfortunately, Wenger’s boys lost their last four league trips to the Bridge.
  • Conte’s boys have won their last eight home games.
  • Since winning 5-3 at Chelsea, Wenger’s side have lost their next four Stamford Bridge trips.

A glimmer of hope, or an early end to their season awaits Arsenal at the Bridge

It was an all too familiar scenario: Arsenal had to golden opportunity to move closer to the top spot but blow their shot in epic fashion. The result left fans enraged, the players demoralized, and the club’s title hopes closer to its end.

The Gunners hosted Watford on the same day Chelsea faced Liverpool at Anfield. Winning was always going to be difficult for the Blues, but none expected the Gunners to be defeat 2-1 at home – which they were.

This left the club in third spot – behind Tottenham on goal difference – at a nine-point disadvantage in the table. Furthermore, the club will be missing key midfielders for this London derby.

Aaron Ramsey picked up a calf injury in the shock defeat, and will thus miss the Chelsea clash. With Mohamed Elneny unavailable and Granit Xhaka still suspended, this leaves Wenger short of options in midfield.

The manager is also another worry, as he won’t be able to bark commands at his player. Instead, he will be in the stands, as the Chelsea trip will be the penultimate game of his four-match touchline ban.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Olivier Giroud are injury doubts, with Danny Welbeck tipped to start after his FA Cup heroics.

Chelsea have two worries in the form of David Luiz and Eden Hazard. Although both featured in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool, they are both rumored to be playing through pain and might not start on Saturday.
