This fixture gives the new manager (pictured below) the much-needed opportunity to have a look at the squad and decide the best way forward. Many of the players in the camp are still new to the side and some may not feature again after this fixture, and the other against Jamaica. 
The main objective of this fixture is to find out what works for the team in terms of style of play, formation etc ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifiers against Honduras and Panama slated for March.
The new boss has also pumped some life into the national team career of Benny Filhaber, who had publicly lamented about his absence from the USMNT squad last year. The 32-year-old Brazilian-born player is set to add some experience to the squad having played for the likes of Hamburg in the Bundesliga, Derby County in the Premier League and AGF Aarhus in Denmark. He now plies his trade for Sporting Kansas City in the MLS and has 41 appearances for his country. He even participated in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and also scored the winner against Mexico in the final of the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
But his position will face serious competition from Sacha Kljestan, who is one year younger but also boasts of vast experience. He has played for the US national team 46 times, scored four goals, and was also in the 2010 World Cup squad, the 2009 Confederations Cup and the 2008 Beijin Olympics.
