Barcelona's supporters can rest assured: the club will try its best to keep Lionel Messi around until the end of his playing days.
Speaking at a press conference, team president Josep María Bartomeu revealed that the club is already starting negotiations with Jorge Messi, the player's father/agent, to secure the future of the Argentine superstar with the team.
Without providing any further details, Bartomeu explained why he believes Los Culés will eventually extend Messi's contract.
Messi's current deal with Barcelona ends in the summer of 2018. Reports from Argentina suggest that Messi wants to return to his home country once his contract ends, but Barça's execs feel they can convince him to stay a bit longer following successful negotiations with Neymar and Luis Suárez, two of Messi's closest friends in the squad.
