With the ball placed four yards away from the USMNT's box, the playmaker sent the ball into the top left-hand corner of Brad Guzan's net.
Messi confirmed himself as La Albiceleste's best striker of all-time, surpassing Gabriel Batistuta's tally of 54 goals.
