The former Castilla youth player Lucas Vazquez was given golden playing time at the Etihad Stadium, replacing injured Cristiano Ronaldo in Tuesday night’s goalless Champions League semi-final.

Real Madrid’s back up winger was ecstatic that boss Zidane chose the 24-year old to replace Madrid’s ace for such a crucial match. Rather than choosing his high-profile options such as Isco or James Rodriguez, the French manager decided to feature the Galician, who was on loan last year at Espanyol.

Speaking in the mixed zone after the match, the Spaniard claimed he was fearless when Zidane had chosen him to feature in the game. He knew he had the ability to perform well and help his team in the semi-finals.

"It's no use being afraid of anything, and even less so in the world of football, if you trust in your ability, things will work out well."

"The coach is the one who makes the decisions and I'm very grateful for the opportunities that he's giving me. Long may it continue."

Real-Madrid-Lucas-Vazquez

If Portuguese superstar Ronaldo continues to be sidelined due to his thigh injury, Lucas Vazquez will be hoping to be called up to play again in the second leg, as Los Blancos welcome Pellegrini's lads to the Santiago Bernabeu next Wednesday.
