He had played with Italy in the Euro qualifiers less than 30 hours earlier. He has scored 22 goals in 31 games this season.

Sebastian Giovinco will not want to wake up from the dream he is living anytime soon, but he does not have to, since everything that is happening around him is real. The Italian striker played in two very important games over the week for two different teams and scored a goal that has Toronto back in the MLS Playoffs.

Giovinco was part of Italy's squad that played against Norway and whom they beat by 2-1 in Rome on Tuesday. Less than 30 hours later, having to battle fatigue and a jetlag, Sebastian Giovinco came off the bench in Toronto, Canada to score what may have been the best goal of his career so far.

This is commitment ladies and gentlemen

There was tension in the stadium throughout the whole game. 70 minutes had gone by and the score was 1-0 in favor of Toronto. Nothing was safe for the home side and the fans at BMO Field knew it. With 19 minutes remaining, Gio came off the bench hoping to give his team a more comfortable lead.

Seven minutes after he had entered the pitch, the Italian striker showed no signs of fatigue and started dribbling almost from midfield and in the direction of the opposite net. While he struggled trying to find an open teammate, he continued his way down the field and finally crossed his shot from the edge of the 18-yard box and into the net. The crowd went crazy and with a good reason, they had witnessed the best goal of the season.

There was no better way to put it

The game did not end there. New York Red Bulls reacted with one goal but were unable to tie the game. That meant that for the first time ever, Toronto FC had clinched their ticket to the MLS Playoffs. Giovinco knew how important the game was for the team and that was a reason for him to travel overnight all the way from Italy.

Toronto FC had fallen short of the playoffs many times. The team had been the home of Sunderland's Jermaine Defoe, but decided to go with Jozy Altidore instead this past winter. It seemed like a risky move for a team founded in 2006 and that last year had left the tournament right on the edge of qualifying.

Giovinco's goal was applauded by many soccer-related celebrities

Toronto FC fans are pleased with their team

At this point, Toronto is second place in the Eastern Conference with 49 points. They are hoping to catch the New York Red Bulls who are five points ahead of them. If they do, they would have a bye during the first round of the playoffs.

Toronto is on fire

Wednesday was a special day for sports fans in Toronto. Not only did Toronto FC do well, but their Major League Baseball team also clinched a spot in the American League Championship Series just a few blocks away. The Blue Jays were able to come from behind in 0-3 and finish the game 6-3 in Game 5 of the series against the Texas Rangers.
