The Reds paid £32.5m for the former Aston Villa player. Roberto Firmino also made his debut in the same game.

Just after halftime, with the game tied 0-0, Christian Benteke took matters into his own hands and scored a superb goal to open the scoresheet and guide Liverpool to what ended as a 2-1 win over Swindon in Finland. The Belgian player made it clear why the Reds had paid £32.5m for him over the summer.

His debut had been overshadowed by fans who were protesting against the high price that Liverpool paid for him. 48 minutes into the game, those fans who had been shouting “What a waste of money,” along with everyone else in the stadium were mesmerized by Benteke's first goal in his first game with Liverpool.

Benteke received the ball outside the big box from Joe Texeira, used his chest to receive the ball and get himself in position to make a strong impact with his right foot and making it impossible for the goalkeeper to stop the inevitable. Even Brendan Rodgers was impressed by what Benteke had just done.

"Christian's goal was incredible," Rodgers said about a goal that could hardly have been any better. "It was a wonderful technique from the big guy."

The 24-year-old can now rest easy knowing that he has left a very good first impression on his coach and on the fans that watched the game. Roberto Firmino, who also had his debut with the Reds, played some good 67 minutes with his new team. At that time, both Firmino and Benteke walked away from the field.

Swindon tied the game with a goal from Jonathan Obika in the 63rd minute. Their happiness did not last long as Sheyi Ojo gave Liverpool the win in their last game before starting their Premier League season against Stoke City on August 9.
