So Sporting Braga are only one step away from playing UEFA Champions League football. They just need to hang on to the 1-0 victory they recorded against Sevilla in Portugal last week to see their European dream come true.

Sporting Braga players celebrating. For the Portuguese side, competing against the likes of elite clubs such as Real Madrid, Manchester United, or Inter Milan is a honor – and one prize that they don’t want to miss. Braga coach Domingos Pacienca underlined his side’s readiness going into the second leg in Andalusia as he declared:

“We are aware of Sevilla’s quality. We’ll fight to the end so as to make good use of the 1-0 advantage. I trust my men, but the tie is still very much open.”

The coach on the losing side, Sevilla’s Antonio Alvarez, also believes that nothing is decided yet. He urged his team to accomplish their mission of turning down their 1-0 deficit as he explained:

“ The result is dangerous, but we have to trust ourselves that we can succeed in the return leg. Sporting Braga played football and got rewarded with a goal which Sevilla also deserved. But the tie will be settled in Sevilla.”

Play maker Jesus Navas can’t imagine himself without UEFA Champions League football this season. Still upset following Sevilla’s loss to Sporting Braga, the Spanish international stated:

“We can look forward to this second leg. We didn’t pass the ball well [in the first leg] and that’s what we lacked. But the result was unfair because we showed more.

“At home, we will surely have our chances. We have to be very confident and we have to believe that if we play to our level, then anything is possible.”

Sevilla just got trounced 4-0 to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup and had to let the trophy to the Blaugrana as they surrendered a 3-1 first leg advantage. They definitely have to bounce back from what happened last Sunday if they want to deprive Sporting Braga from entering the group stages of the UEFA Champions League at their expense.
