The past few weeks have been very good for Manchester City. Against the odds. they qualified for the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League. They beat AS Roma, 0-2, in Italy and were helped out by Bayern's entertaining victory over CSKA Moskva. They also added yet another win in the Premier League by beating Leicester, 0-1, courtesy of a goal from a Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard. The City fans have surely been boosted by the fact that their team can record such important victories even without the presence of the marvelous Sergio Aguero. Aguero is sidelined with a knee problem. City have no fit strikers at the moment. Stevan Jovetic pulled a hamstring recently while Edin Dzeko has a calf problem.
The problems for City are not just in the attacking department. The defensive department has a major problem too. Vincent Kompany, their inspirational leader, is out with a hamstring injury. For Crystal Palace, Adrian Mariappa is out. A thigh problem might see Marouane Chamakh sidelined as well. Wilfried Zaha is a slight doubt too. Palace is currently sitting in sixteenth spot, hovering dangerously close to the relegation spots. They have picked up a measly three points in their last four matches, courtesy of three draws against Swansea, Tottenham and Stoke City.
City have won eleven matches in the Premier League this season, drawing three and losing two. This alone shows their strength, especially in a league which is constantly advertised as the most competitive among Europe's top five leagues. They have won five matches on the trot. They should be wary of Man United, who are sitting right behind them. However, Chelsea are perhaps also keeping an eye on City as City are just three points behind them. Palace, one point above the relegation zone, are desperately in need of points.
